Transfer Photos from Facebook to Google+ using Fotolink

So, you’ve managed to get a Google+ account, but don’t know where to start. You've managed to upload a profile picture, join a few circles and update a few streams. What's social networking without photos? However, all your photos are linked to your Facebook account. Here are a few quick steps to get your photos copied from your Facebook to your Google+ account. Fotolink, developed by Primadesk Inc allows easy integration of all your images from one account to another and has a relatively easy way to get all your Facebook images onto Google+.

• Go to the Fotolink application from your Facebook account and allow access, just like any other application.
• An integrated window will open that will display yours as well as your friends recent photos and albums. Click on the album you want to share with your Google account or select the photos to be shared and press Copy. The files will be copied to the clipboard. 
• Next, select ‘Photo Accounts’ and click on the Picasa Logo. Enter your Google username and password and press Connect. A separate window will appear that will ask you for access. Click on Allow Access.

Fotolink Access

• Your Google account is now integrated with Fotolink. Maximize the ‘My Online Accounts’ tab on the left hand side of the screen. Click on your account name that has been created. Create a separate album/ Click on an existing album and press Paste on the right hand side of the screen. Your pictures will be linked to your Google+ account.
• Log into Google+ Click on the photos tab. Next click on ‘Your albums’. Your photos will be available there. You can share it with your circles or post it on your stream.

Android 3.2 is Officially Here!

Android 3.2 is here! The new release implies that the previous version has been worked upon with new capabilities for both the users, and the developers, complete with level 13 API changes.

According to a post on Google's Android Developers, this latest version of Android has been optimized for better user experience, something that the existing Honeycomb version so desperately needed. The newer version of Android comes with a swanky compatibility display mode, which is designed to make apps look good across all devices. With a pixel-scaled alternative, the few apps that behave weirdly on larger displays will have themselves sorted out. Additionally, users will be able to sync the available media with the removable SD card to have data on the card directly sent to the required app. The latest version of Android will come with updated SDK tools for developers. The tool kit consists of an Android library, system image, few emulator skins but excludes external libraries.

We had reported a few days ago about the first Android 3.2 tablet, the Huawei MediaPad making an appearance at CommunicAsia, Singapore. Now, with the official announcement being made the cat is finally, completely out of the bag. What do you think?

Twitter for Android Gets Big Update

Twitter for Android has gotten a huge update bringing two big features, namely push notifications and multiple account usability. So now, if you have more than one Twitter account that you tweet from, you can use the Android app to switch between accounts without logging in and out. These features have been available for Twitter on iOS since Twitter bought the iOS app, Tweetie. However, to the disappointment of many Twitter users as well as social media marketers, yet to the smiling faces of third party clients that base their product on multiple account usage, this feature is still not available on Twitter for web.

Twitter for Android with new features

For iPhone users, push notifications came in Twitter for iPhone and now for Android users it seems slightly redundant. Android already has a bar for notifications so users will see the same notifications twice. The Twitter for Android app is available for free from the Android Market. If you want your Twitter on your Android smartphone to be able to push notify and tweet from multiple accounts, head on over and download the app.

Evernote Releases App for Android Tablets

Evernotw has released an app designed specifically for Android tablets and is available for free from the Android Market. It offers the same note taking functions as all the other Evernote apps, including audio note recording and social note sharing but it does it with a new interface that helps visual note browsing. In this new interface, the homescreen presents notes in Snippet View. The left hand bar can be used to to tab through notebooks, tags and shared notebooks view options. Using the application, users can also create and edit rich text notes. This feature is available to all Evernote users, not just Android tablet users. There will also be a new bar for text editing above the keyboard.

There's a larger Evernote widget available now for the homescreen, where users can see snippets of their recently created and edited notes. Evernote's VP of marketing, Andrew Sinkov says, "In addition to letting you jump to core Evernote features, you now see snippets of your recently-accessed notes. This means you no longer need to launch Evernote in order to find a recent note, just tap on the note in the widget.” This new Evernote for Android is available for free in the Android Market.

Bangalore Based EAFT Launches 10.1-inch Android Tablet

It’s been hard enough trying to make a choice when it comes to purchasing a tablet, however, things just got a little tougher with yet another device that has been recently announced for India. The latest tablet to enter into the foray is by another local manufacturer, Bangalore-based EAFT (Everything at your Fingertips) Technologies. Their offering is the MagicTile-Marathon 10.1-inch, NVIDIA Tegra 2 infused, Android tablet.

With features that include full HD i.e. 1080p video playback and Flash 10.1 Support, the MagicTile should be worthy competition for the Xoom, ICONIA A500 or even the iPad 2. However, that might not necessarily be the case here. For one thing the MagicTile has very limited internal storage i.e. 512MB for the OS and running apps etc. and is available with Android 2.2 aka FroYo, which is not upgradable.

According to EAFT’s Engineering Manager for the project, Pankaj Verma – the reason why EAFT has launched the Marathon with FroYo and not Honeycomb, is because of the fact that this version has, so far, proven to be the most stable of the lot. While that’s understandable from a certain standpoint it seems a bit that even Gingerbread was not an option seeing as NVIDIA’s 1GHz Tegra2 processor is quite capable of handling it.

Could it really take on even the ICONIA A500?

The lack of ‘GB-capacity’ memory is what will automatically take it out of the running with the big boys like Motorola, Apple, Acer or Samsung. What the MagicTile, or Marathon does support is USB 2.0 connectivity, which will allow you to connect a pen drive up to 16GB for added support. If that isn’t enough, you can also thrown in a 16GB microSD card. The USB port can also be used to attach a keyboard or mouse, which means it has only FAT32 support and not NTFS for hard drives.

With regards to media, the device is capable of reading AVI files and H.264 formats in full HD. EAFT is also providing customers with their own App Market for downloading applications (hopefully the device will also come preloaded with the native Android Market as well). The MagicTile is also equipped to handle 3G connectivity but will have no calling functionality, it’s strictly for data.

Google Updates Android Market for Smartphones

The Android Market is set to get a makeover with two new tabs being added namely movies and books for Google powered smartphones. Google has released a new version of the Android Market, which allows users to find new ways to search for applications, games, purchase books or rent movies on their phones running Android 2.2 or higher. Editors' choice and new tabs in the Android Market According to a blog post on the Google Mobile Blog, with the Videos app which is available in Android Market, there’s no more waiting for downloads, syncing, or worrying about storage space. One can simply sign into Android Market with their Google account and rent movies from anywhere. This includes the web or your Android phone or tablet. One can also download movies to their device so they’re available for viewing when a user does not have an internet connection.  In addition to videos, one can also purchase books from the Android market onto a phone. Books, like videos are connected with a user’s Google account; hence becoming available across all platforms such as computers, phones and tablets without the need for wires or downloads. Other updated features of the Android Market will include more space to feature some of the most interesting content of the week on the home page, more top charts, with newer, more relevant items and new collections of content like staff picks and Editors’ Choice apps. However, these attractive updates are presently only available in the US as of now; a global rollout will take place in the coming weeks for supported Android phones running 2.2 or higher. This is an automatic update so one does not need to do anything to avail of these interesting updates from Google.

LG Optimus 3D’s Video Recording Bumped up a Bit

When we had a hands-on with the Optimus 3D, the smartphone could record 720p 3D videos at rate of 30 fps. However, in standard definition video capturing, it could record 1080p videos at 24 fps. Now the Optimus 3D’s launch was delayed, and there seems to be a valid reason for that.

Better frame rate for video capturing

GSMArena says that the frame rate for capturing Full HD 1080p videos has been bumped up by a few frames. Now, the smartphone can record 1080p at 30 fps which is not a very big rise, but is definitely quite a bit to change at the last minute. It looks like ever since the smartphone was announced, LG was working on tweaking the video performance of the Optimus 3D.

Many companies usually end up boasting about such achievements. And strangely, LG hasn’t done that. Does it mean that they’re working on some other update, as well and are planning to announce these updates together? Time will tell. Let’s hope the other update is a little more significant.

NASA Rolls Out App for Android

It’s official now. Android users with a keen interest in the world of astronomical science and activities of NASA can now find them right on their smartphones. After the immense popularity of the NASA app on the iPad and the iPhone, and scores of requests from Android users later, an app for Android was decided on.

The NASA App is currently available for free on the Android market. The NASA App for Android includes content from NASA’s collection like – images from NASA IOTD, APOD and NASAImages.org, videos-on demand, and access to streaming video from NASA’s very own, NASA TV, details of their several missions, launch information and their countdown clocks, ISS and Earth Orbiting Satellite tracker, feature stories and breaking news, among others.

App Shortens Text for Mobile Twitter or SMS

Twitter only allows you 140 characters, and even though no one really pays attention to it anymore, SMS limits you to 160 characters. There are of course ways to get around at least the Twitter limit on the web, however, you're a little stuck on the phone. Trimit is an iOS app, which works on shortening text so you're easily able to tweet longer thoughts. The app costs $0.99 (approx Rs. 44), and it allows you to shake your phone or iPod touch and your text will be shortened. The app is developed by Frimby Limited, who have also developed another app, FaceMood, which reads your Facebook friends' status updates and analyzes their moods from certain word algorithms.

Trim your text

Based on a similar word algorithms principle, Trimit 'reads' your text and decides how important sentences are based on their structure. The most important thoughts are then pieced together in a way that is cohesive. The app also looks at facts like dates, proper nouns, facts and figures and gives them special importance. Users also have the option to omit vowels in text (like vwls) and/or abbreviate ("forget" becomes 4get). Once you paste your text in the editor or it imports it from a URL, you choose whether you want to shorten for Facebook, Twitter, email, or SMS and then give it a shake and voila! Your text is shortened. It's obviously not the best version of English, but the job gets done.

LOLcats Now Purrs on the iPhone

Cheezburger's "LOLcats" site has enough furry goodness to keep you entertained for hours (if that is your kind of thing). The site already has fans make apps for it and this is the offical Cheezburger Network's effort to build an app for the site. The cats will now be available on iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads. The app itself is free and is a simpler version of the I Can Has Cheezburger's website. It carries content from ICanHasCheezburger.com, IHasAHotDog.com, RoflRazzi.com, and more. The Cheezburger Network says that with this app, users can check out content from LOLcats, LOLdogs, Daily Dose of Cute, LOLcelebs and more. The app presents the same memes with the ability to share them over Facebook and Twitter. It's already on version 2.0.

Cats do the darndest things... on iPhone!

The Cheezburger Network is looking to expand its app repertoire by building apps for its other sites like FAILblog and Memebase. The network was able to get $30 million in funding in January, so it does actually have the ability to build apps. They may even expand to other mobile systems like Android and maybe Symbian. Samsung Brings TouchWiz to Galaxy Tab 10.1 in an Upcoming Update

While its arrival date in India is still uncertain, we at least know now what the hold up was all along. Samsung posted on their site about an upcoming update for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 that’s supposed to bring some big improvements to the tablet including the addition of their TouchWiz UI to Honeycomb. The new features include Live Panel, a magazine-like widget that gives you instant access to weather, social updates and news right from the home screen. There’s also a Mini Apps tray, Clipboard and Indicator Quick Panel for toggling Wi-Fi, notifications, etc.

Expected very soon

Some enterprise features include on-device encryption and Cisco VPN capabilities. Samsung will also implement Hubs giving you a one stop shop for all your movies, music, social networking and e-books. You’ll finally be able to connect USB drives, SD cards and HDMI, but all through optional accessories. Whenever Samsung decides to launch the Tab 10.1 in India, they have to nail the pricing or else it won’t work. The Motorola Xoom and Acer’s ICONIA A500 will be its biggest competition and I feel 32-35K would be a very aggressive end user price for the 3G version, what do you think?

Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray pops up on Carphone Warehouse, expected August

The Xperia Ray recently joined an ever-growing list of Sony Ericsson Android handsets we’ve met this year, including the Xperia Pro, Neo, Arc, Play, Mini and Mini Pro.
Three has confirmed that it’ll carry the Xperia Ray “soon”, and now the phone has popped up on The Carphone Warehouse with an expected release date of August.


Sony Ericsson promises an “irresistibly elegant Android smartphone”. We reckon “irresistible” is a bit of a stretch, but it looks ok-ish.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray has a 3.3in BRAVIA display, 1GHz processor, 8.1MP camera, 720p video recording, and rocks Gingerbread (Android 2.3). It’ll be available in gold, pink, black and white.
The Xperia Ray also claims to be one of the “slimmest, sleekest smartphones around”, with a thickness of 9.4mm.
No pricing just yet, but you can “pre-register” your interest over at The Carphone Warehouse.

Apple Wants Sale of Galaxy S 4G, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Others Banned in US

Yet another twist has been added to the Apple – Samsung saga. Just a couple of days ago, it was learned that the South Korea based consumer electronics manufacturer, Samsung had approached the U.S. International Trade Commission to propose the ban of Apple products in U.S., in the form of sales, imports, among others. & the battle continues... CNET, now reports that the iPad manufacturer has retorted back with a similar proposal – that of having some of Samsung’s premier products banned in the U.S. As per the request forwarded to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, Apple seeks that Samsung’s Galaxy S 4G, Infuse 4G, Droid Charge smartphones, as also the Galaxy Tab 10.1 be banned in the U.S. Additionally, Apple also stated that it has let off Samsung’s other products like the yet-to-be-released Galaxy S II smartphone and Galaxy Tab 8.9, and decided to put the axe down on only four products, mentioned above.

BBC News App for Android, Now Available Worldwide

In case you’re wondering why the BBC has taken this long to come out with an app for the Android Market, the fact is that they had come out with one last month. However, that was exclusive only to the United Kingdom. Thankfully, they’re spreading the love to other countries, as well.

BBC has always been renowned for delivering the latest, accurate news as it happens. An app for Android is a good idea in keeping with the times and like most Android-based news apps, the BBC app is free and can be downloaded from the Android Market.

The screenshots show that the app looks quite decent in terms of the interface’s look and feel. Users have access to live BBC World Service Radio and can watch a video of a news story that they’ve checked. Users can personalize the homescreen by adding or removing sections of their choice and they can also choose to automatically update content in the background.

Cowon C2 up For Pre-Order

Cowon is no stranger when it comes to media players and today they’ve announced their new C2 PMP for pre-order. You’ll have the option of three memory capacities starting at 4GB for Rs.5,900, 8GB for Rs.6,750, and finally 16GB for Rs.7,900.

Compact and Slick..

The C2 sports a 2.6-inch LCD resistive touch screen with a 320x240 resolution. The player has a rather limited video format support with just AVI, WMV and ASF but, thankfully the audio support is a lot better with FLAC, OGG and APE along with the standard MP3, WMA and WAV. The internal storage is expandable through a built-in micro SD card slot. The 1000mAh Li-polymer battery should give you a good battery life of what Cowon claims to be max 10hrs. The C2 comes with Cowon's very own JetEffect 3.0 software package which includes 39 presets, BBE+, 5 band graphic equalizer, etc.

Instagram Updates with Photo Albums for Liked Pictures

Instagram got a major update today in addition to faster uploads and autocomplete hashtags. The major update is that the photo sharing app now creates a photo album of images that you've liked. Previously, Instagram was just a stream of photos and liking a photo had no benefit to you, just an ego boost to the person who put it up. Now, aside from just the photos you've uploaded, you have instant access to view photos you've liked over and over again, unless, of course the owner takes it down. Like pictures and they'll become a photo album You can also add a little bit more to your profile by way of profile pictures (from your Photo Library) and web links. This way when you like someone's picture, they have somewhat of an idea who you are and who exactly is liking their pictures. So, now going from the simple take picture, add filter and upload app, Instagram is on its way to becoming a full on social network purely based on photography.

Facebook Inside Xperia for the X10

That your Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will be getting a Gingerbread update is not surprising. However, the update is also said to be bringing the “Facebook inside Xperia” feature to the handset. With Facebook features incoming From what the Mobile Indian has to say, a certain Sony Ericsson spokesperson said that the Gingerbread update will be arriving to handsets in India, but they didn’t have an idea about the timing of the launch. What we know is that the update should be launching at the end of this month or maybe beginning of July. A few days back we saw SE releasing the “Facebook inside Xperia” feature for the Xperia Play and the Xperia Arc. If these features make it to the X10, that’ll just add to the happiness to the X10 users, as well. These small progresses definitely are going to earn Sony Ericsson those brownie points that they have been in need of for a while now. Let’s just wish that there’s no change of plans or anything of that sort.
